
GYEONGJU. October 29, 2025. During the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Gyeongju, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexey Logvinovich Overchuk visited the Parish of the Holy Royal Passion-Bearers in Gyeongju.
The distinguished guest’s delegation, who arrived in the Republic of Korea to participate in a key international event, was accompanied by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Korea Georgy Veniaminovich Zinoviev and staff of the Russian Embassy.
The guests were greeted by His Eminence Archbishop Theofan of Korea, Administrator of the Korean Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church. His Eminence gave Alexey Overchuk and Georgy Zinoviev a tour of the church, during which he described the history and current life of the Orthodox community, which cares for Russian-speaking believers and Korean Orthodox Christians. Particular attention was paid to the Korean Diocese’s efforts to preserve spiritual and cultural ties with its historical homeland.
In memory of the meeting, Archbishop Theofan presented Alexey Overchuk with his book, “The Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Korea,” which tells the story of Orthodoxy on the Korean Peninsula.
Hieromonk Theofan (Pozhidaev) and representatives of the parish community also participated in the meeting.
