
On February 9, 2026, solemn and commemorative events were held in Seoul to mark Diplomats’ Day of the Russian Federation.
The program included a memorial service and the laying of flowers at the grave of Sergei Vissarionovich Chirkin (1875–1943), a diplomat of the Russian Empire, at the Foreign Missionary Cemetery in Yanghwajin. Flowers were also laid at the building of the former Russian diplomatic mission in Korea and an official reception was held at the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Korea.
With the blessing of His Eminence Theofan, Archbishop of Korea, the Korean Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church was represented at these events by Hieromonk Pavel (Choi), a cleric of the diocese. Father Pavel performed a memorial service at the grave of Sergei Chirkin, participated in a flower-laying ceremony, and attended an official reception at the Russian Embassy.
